Terms of Service
Last updated 31 August 2026 · Version tos-2026-08-31
GitFinder is a recruiting search tool operated by WorkOnward, Inc.. You paste a job description; we search public GitHub data, rank developers with AI, and give you their names, public activity and — where we can find one in public data — an email address.
Signing up is free. Starting a trial requires a payment method: 3 days free with up to 5 searches a day, then $49.00 per month plus any applicable taxes, automatically, until you cancel. You can cancel online at any time, and if you cancel before the trial ends you are not charged. You are responsible for how you use candidate data, including your own compliance with privacy and anti-discrimination law.
This summary is for convenience only and is not part of the agreement.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
GitFinder (“the Service”) is operated by WorkOnward, Inc. (“we”, “us”), WorkOnward, Inc., 124 East 14th Street, New York, NY 10003, USA. You can reach us at info@workonward.com or +1 347-537-9363.
These Terms form a binding agreement between you and us covering your access to and use of the Service. Our Privacy Policyexplains how we handle personal information and is incorporated into these Terms by reference. If you are agreeing on behalf of an employer or client, you confirm you are authorised to bind them, and “you” means both you and that organisation.
2. Eligibility, your account, and account security
You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract. You must confirm your email address before you can sign in — this is how we know the account belongs to you. Keep your password confidential, use the account only for your own recruiting activity, and tell us promptly at info@workonward.com if you believe it has been compromised. Sharing one account across multiple recruiters is not permitted.
3. What GitFinder does — and what it does not do
You describe a role in plain English. We derive a search plan from it, search public GitHub data, enrich and rank candidates using an AI model, and present a shortlist in which every candidate has at least one email address found in public data. You can save candidates to lists, add notes and statuses, and export CSV or JSON.
GitFinder is a sourcing and search tool. It is not an applicant tracking system, not a background-check or screening service, not a consumer reporting agency, and it does not send outreach on your behalf. It does not guarantee that any candidate is real, available, interested, correctly identified, or reachable.
4. Free trial, subscription, price, and automatic renewal
4.1 A free account
Creating an account is free and does not require a payment method. A free account does not include searches.
4.2 Starting a trial requires a payment method
To run searches you must start a trial, which requires a valid payment method. Before we collect any billing information we show you, on one screen, the length of the trial, what you will be charged when it ends, when the first charge occurs, and how to cancel. You must give separate, express consent to the automatic-renewal terms — by ticking a box that is not pre-ticked, and that is not part of your acceptance of these Terms — before we send you to our payment processor. If you do not give that consent, no payment method is collected and you are not charged.
4.3 Trial terms
The trial lasts 3 days from the moment you start it. During the trial you may run up to 5 searches per calendar day (UTC). The trial is free. You may cancel at any point during the trial and you will not be charged.
4.4 What happens when the trial ends
Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your trial converts automatically into a paid monthly subscription and your payment method is charged $49.00 (USD) plus any applicable taxes. Thereafter your subscription renews automatically each month and your payment method is charged $49.00 plus any applicable taxes on each renewal, until you cancel. There is no minimum term and no cancellation fee.
4.5 Reminder before your first charge
We will email the address on your account before the trial ends and before the first charge is made, telling you the amount, the date of the charge, and how to cancel. If your trial is close to ending and you have not received that email, contact us at info@workonward.com.
4.6 What appears on your statement
Charges appear on your card or bank statement under GITFINDER. Around the end of a trial the statement text may include a trial indicator added by the card networks. If you do not recognise a charge, contact us before disputing it and we will identify it for you.
4.7 Payment processing
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We never receive or store your full card number. Your use of the payment flow is also subject to Stripe’s own terms. If a charge fails we may retry it and may suspend searching until payment succeeds.
4.8 Price changes
We may change the subscription price. If we do, we will email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and the new price will apply only to renewals occurring after that notice period. You may cancel before it takes effect. We will never treat continued use as consent to a price increase — we will ask for fresh, separate consent to the new terms.
4.9 Records of your consent
We keep a record of the automatic-renewal terms you were shown and the consent you gave — including the exact wording, a version identifier, and the date and time — for at least three years, or one year after your subscription ends, whichever is longer. You can request a copy of your own consent record at any time by emailing info@workonward.com.
5. Cancellation and refunds
5.1 You can cancel online, in the same place you signed up
Because you started your subscription online, you can end it online. Sign in and go to Billing → Manage subscription → Cancel plan. That opens our payment processor’s customer portal, where cancelling takes a single confirmation. We will not require you to call us, wait on hold, chat with anyone, or send a letter in order to cancel.
5.2 If you cannot reach the portal
Email info@workonward.comfrom the address on your account with “cancel” in the subject line. We will cancel your subscription and confirm by email within one business day, effective from the date we receive your email.
5.3 When cancellation takes effect
Cancelling during the trial takes effect at the end of the trial and you are not charged. Cancelling a paid subscription takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for; you keep access until then and you are not charged again.
5.4 Refunds
Monthly fees are charged in advance and are generally non-refundable, and we do not pro-rate a partial month. Two exceptions, which we will honour without argument:
- If you were charged after cancelling, or charged an amount other than the price you consented to, we refund it in full.
- If GitFinder was materially unavailable for more than 72 consecutive hours during a paid month, we refund that month on request.
Nothing here limits any refund or cancellation right you have under the consumer law of your own country or state, including any statutory cooling-off period. Where such a right applies, it applies in addition to this section.
5.5 What happens to your data
Cancelling stops billing but does not delete your account. To delete your account and its data, see the Privacy Policy or email us.
6. Taxes
Prices are stated exclusive of tax. Where we are required to collect sales tax, VAT, GST or similar, it is calculated at checkout based on your billing address and added to the amount charged. You are responsible for any withholding or other taxes imposed on you. If you are exempt or have a valid VAT/GST identifier, enter it at checkout.
7. Fair use, search limits, and availability
Search volume is limited to protect service quality for everyone: 5 searches per day during the trial and 10 searches per day on the paid plan. Days run midnight to midnight UTC. A search counts once it starts, whether or not it returns as many candidates as you hoped — the underlying data and model costs are incurred at that point.
GitFinderdepends on GitHub’s public API and on third-party AI infrastructure, both of which impose their own rate limits. At times of heavy load a search may be briefly deferred, or may return fewer candidates than requested; where that happens we tell you rather than silently padding the results. We provide the Service on an as-available basis and do not commit to an uptime figure.
8. Acceptable use of candidate data
GitFinder returns personal information about real people who did not ask to be in our index. This is the most important section of these Terms, and breaching it is grounds for immediate termination without refund.
8.1 Recruiting only
You may use candidate information only to identify, evaluate and contact people about a genuine employment, contract or freelance opportunity that you or your client actually has. You may not use it for any other purpose.
8.2 Prohibited uses
You must not:
- resell, license, publish, syndicate or otherwise redistribute candidate information, in whole or in part, whether or not for a fee;
- load candidate email addresses into a marketing, newsletter, advertising, sales-prospecting or lead-generation system, or send any commercial message that is not about a specific role;
- send bulk or automated unsolicited email, or use the addresses to create accounts, subscribe people to anything, or verify addresses for a third party;
- use candidate information to assess creditworthiness, insurability, tenancy, immigration status or eligibility for any benefit, or as a consumer report or background check — GitFinder is not a consumer reporting agency and its output is not a consumer report;
- use it to harass, threaten, stalk, dox, defame or retaliate against anyone;
- combine, enrich, aggregate or re-identify candidate information to build or improve a competing dataset, database or product;
- use candidate information, or any GitFinder output, as training, fine-tuning, evaluation or retrieval data for any machine-learning model;
- scrape, crawl, mirror or systematically extract GitFinder output, or circumvent search limits, rate limits or the paywall, or share your account credentials.
8.3 Your own outreach is yours
Any message you send to a candidate is sent by you, not by us. You alone are responsible for its content and for complying with the law that applies to it — including the US CAN-SPAM Act, the EU ePrivacy rules and GDPR, the UK’s PECR, Canada’s CASL, and any equivalent law where the recipient is. Identify yourself honestly, say where you got their details if asked, and stop contacting anyone who asks you to stop.
8.4 Honour opt-outs immediately and permanently
If a candidate asks you to delete their information or stop contacting them, do so promptly, delete what you exported, and do not re-add them from a later search. Tell us at info@workonward.com so we can suppress them at the source.
8.5 Exports
CSV and JSON exports leave our control the moment you download them. You are responsible for storing them securely, limiting who can see them, and deleting them when they are no longer needed for the role you were hiring for. Exports carry the provenance of each email address — whether the candidate published it or we inferred it from public commit metadata. Read that column before you contact anyone.
8.6 We may cut you off
We monitor for patterns consistent with resale, bulk mailing, scraping and quota evasion, and may suspend or terminate an account immediately, and without refund, where we reasonably believe this section has been breached.
9. Your role as an independent controller
For the personal information GitFinder collects and indexes, WorkOnward, Inc.is the controller (or “business”). For what you do with that information after it reaches you — your shortlists, notes, outreach and applicant-tracking system — youare the controller and we are not your processor or service provider. Neither of us acts on the other’s instructions.
You are responsible for having your own lawful basis to process candidate information, for giving candidates the transparency information your law requires, for handling their access, deletion and objection requests against your own systems, and for keeping the information no longer than you need it. If a candidate exercises a right against you and the request also concerns our index, forward it to info@workonward.comand we will act on it. If either of us receives a regulator’s enquiry involving the other, we will each notify the other promptly where legally permitted and cooperate in good faith.
10. Anti-discrimination and human decision-making
Scores are decision support, not decisions.The match score and its written explanation are produced by an AI model and are a suggestion about relevance. They are not an assessment of a person’s ability, character or suitability for employment, and must not be the sole basis for any decision about anyone. A human must review every candidate before you act.
You must not use GitFinder, or construct a job description or filter, in order to include or exclude people on the basis of race, colour, national origin, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy, marital status, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. Note in particular that a location filter, a “years active on GitHub” signal, and an inference drawn from a name or photograph can each operate as a proxy for a protected characteristic even when that is not your intention.
Some jurisdictions impose bias-audit, notice or reporting duties on employers using automated tools in hiring. Whether those duties apply to your use of GitFinderdepends on how and where you hire; that assessment and compliance with it are yours. Tell us at info@workonward.com if you need documentation about how the ranking works, and we will provide what we reasonably can.
11. Your content
Job descriptions, notes, list names and other material you submit remain yours. You grant us a non-exclusive licence to host, process and display it in order to operate the Service for you. Do not paste confidential information, or information about a named individual, into a job description — it is sent to our AI provider to derive a search plan.
12. Our intellectual property; your feedback
The Service, its software, design, ranking methodology and documentation are ours or our licensors’. These Terms grant you no rights in them beyond the right to use the Service. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or create derivative works from the Service. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without restriction or compensation.
13. AI output: no guarantee of accuracy or contactability
GitFinder reads job descriptions and ranks candidates with a large language model. Model output can be wrong, incomplete, out of date, or confidently mistaken. Public GitHub data can be stale, pseudonymous, shared between people, or belong to someone other than the person you think. Email addresses are found in public data — profile fields, commit metadata and public GPG key user IDs — and may be old, personal rather than professional, an address at a former employer, or simply wrong; an address a candidate published themselves and one inferred from commit metadata are not equally reliable, which is why every export carries the source and a confidence tier. We do not verify identity or employment. Verify before you rely.
14. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and cancel as described in section 5. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms (in particular section 8), if payment fails, if we reasonably believe your use threatens the security, integrity or availability of the Service, or if required by law. Where practical and lawful we will tell you first. On termination your right to use the Service ends; sections 8, 9, 12 and 15 to 21 survive.
15. Disclaimer of warranties
Except as expressly stated in these Terms and to the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy or completeness of data. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any candidate information is accurate, current or complete. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, even if advised of the possibility.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the total amounts you actually paid us for the Service in the twelve months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim, and (b) one hundred US dollars (US$100).
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. These limits do not limit your payment obligations or your obligations under section 8.
17. Indemnification
You will defend, indemnify and hold us harmless from and against any third-party claim, and any resulting loss, liability, damage, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees), arising out of or relating to your use of candidate information in breach of section 8, your outreach to candidates, your breach of these Terms or of applicable law, or your infringement of a third party’s rights. We will notify you promptly of any such claim, give you control of the defence (except that you may not settle in a way that admits our liability or imposes obligations on us without our consent), and cooperate reasonably at your expense.
18. Changes to the service and to these terms
We may change the Service, and we may change these Terms. When we change these Terms we update the “Last updated” date and the version identifier at the top of this page. For changes that materially reduce your rights or increase your obligations we will email the address on your account at least 30 days before they take effect, and continuing to use GitFinderafter that date is your acceptance of them. If we change the subscription price or the automatic-renewal terms we will additionally ask for your fresh, separate consent before applying them. Superseded versions are identified by their version string and are available on request from info@workonward.com.
19. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in Bergen County, New Jersey have exclusive jurisdiction, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any competent court. Before filing a claim, please contact us at info@workonward.com — most disputes are resolved faster that way. If you are a consumer, nothing here deprives you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence, or of the right to bring proceedings there.
20. Notices and how to contact us
Notices to you may be sent to the email address on your account or shown in the Service. Notices to us must be sent to info@workonward.com and, if legal process, additionally in writing to WorkOnward, Inc., 124 East 14th Street, New York, NY 10003, USA.
21. General
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the automatic-renewal terms you consented to, are the entire agreement between us on this subject. You may not assign them without our written consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. If a provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force and the provision is modified to the minimum extent necessary. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. Neither party is liable for a delay or failure caused by an event beyond its reasonable control. Nothing here creates a partnership, agency or employment relationship.
